10-4, Pigpen, we just passed a jimmy on the 5 hauling fifty pallets. What’s he carrying there? Say again, Pigpen, he’s got a load full of American Truck Simulator?
According to SteamSpy’s player tracking, American Truck Simulator has already sold north of 100,000 copies after its February 2 release date. Which, okay, look. It’s a game about trucking. In it, you haul industrial goods from one state to another, taking lengthy trips up and down the interstate while carefully obeying traffic laws. It’s not like your wacky Goat Simulators or Shower With Your Dad Simulators. It actually aims to simulate a real-life occupation in a realistic way.
And it’s kinda great! My parents ran a trucking company in my younger years, and I can tell you from experience that it accurately captures the feeling of driving an 18-wheeler for a long haul down the Interstate. I wasn’t aware that capturing that feeling in a video game is something that speaks to people who are not me, but here we are.
SteamSpy is currently reporting that ATS has 132,763 owners on Steam. The specifics of SteamSpy’s numbers can be a little shaky for a variety of reasons, but they definitely indicate that the game has been very, very successful. I know I’m gonna keep trucking up and down the southwest for the foreseeable future.
