Stories is an action-RPG with lovely cartoon art and what might just be a very unique take on in-game narrative choice.
“In the mystical realm of Boreas, only a clever but unlucky fox has the power to bring an end to a war created by the Emperor gone mad.” Reynardo the fox may be clever, but he has a knack for finding the error side of trial-and-error, running afoul of the likes of dead gods and royal daughters as well. But all is not lost! Using a mysterious tome, Reynardo can retrace his steps yet retain crucial information. In the style of classic choose-your-own-adventure books, Stories has players deduce the path that leads to victory as more knowledge is gained from less-than-successful storylines.”
It sounds like a game built around replayability, which could be real cool if done right. Puzzling your way through to the best ending is perhaps a better mechanic than arbitrary choices leading to a less than satisfactory conclusion. The fairytale will also feature a narrator that’s sure to draw comparisons to Bastion.
Stories: The Path of Destinies will be out April 12 on PC and PS4.
