There’s lots of ways to survive in games. Y’wanna survive zombie apocalypses? You got it! Wanna survive as a badger? Hey, you’re covered. How about surviving a post-apocalypse with a trusty canine companion? You’re not stuck with Fallout anymore!
The developers call the Flame in the Flood “a rogue-lite river journey through the backwaters of a forgotten, post-societal America.” It’s got an awesome style, built in part by Bioshock’s art director. The ornate-yet-vaguely-horrifying art reminds me a bit of fellow survival game, Don’t Starve.
Based on the trailer below, it looks like things are mostly built around outwitting natural predators. The downriver journey is procedurally generated, and your doggy buddy Aesop will sniff out the supplies you need to keep yourself alive.
The game successfully hit made it through Kickstarter late in 2014, and will be out soon. It’s currently in Steam Early Access, and will offer up a final release on February 24.
