Developer PlayWay has announced a new Kickstarter for their psychological thriller The Works of Mercy, an Unreal Engine 4-based title featuring near photo-realistic graphics in which the player takes on the role of a man forced to kill to save his wife and daughter.
The game wants the player to ponder serious moral choices. Part of the mystery is unraveling who the tormentor is, and why he is so vengeful toward the protagonist’s family? ”How far do you have to go to satisfy him? How can you justify the killing in the sake of saving someone’s life? And how will you cope with the sense of guilt?” asks PlayWay.
PlayWay also states it wants to capture the best elements of Gone Home and P.T., and is inspired by such films as Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion” and “The Tenant”, as well as Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”. If that weren’t enough, the game will support virtual reality headsets, so the first person game can really get in your head.
The developer released a gameplay video showing the first few minutes of the game, which really gives some idea of what to expect, though other videos have a “Slient Hill Dark World” feel to them.
