It does my heart good when games come out of Early Access. I’m just like “Aw, good for you, you made it!” And then the game is like “Thanks, man! I couldn’t have done it without you!” And then I say “But wait, I didn’t and can’t do anything for you! I have to stay professionally distant!” and then it gets awkward. It’s a whole thing.
Wait, what was this about? Oh, RPG Tycoon! It’s out of Early Access! It’s a real game now! As you might guess, the game tasks you with building up a lovely little hamlet of the sort that’s visited by a 16-bit RPG hero. You’ll hire heroes to complete quests, which will bring fame and new settlers to your little town, increasing your profits as you compete for glory with neighboring kingdoms.
Ever since SimCity 2000, I’ve been a sucker for a good management game, and this one has a unique-enough concept that I’m interested in it. It’s got a demo, even, which should help to ease the sting of an untested indie title.
RPG Tycoon has been developed by one person over the course of years. Matt Gambell, the developer, touts the game’s easy modability, and it’s even got Steam Workshop support. Not bad for such a tiny game. You can check out a trailer here.
