Sure, when THQ shut down in 2013, it meant the end of a lot of really terrible licensed games, but it also meant the end of a publisher that brought us some truly excellent original titles ranging from Saints Row to Darksiders. Many of the Toy Headquarters’ franchises ended up with a small Austrian publisher called Nordic Games, and now they’re rebranding to reflect that legacy.
The publisher has reincorporated as THQ Nordic. They say they have 23 game projects in development, and 13 of those have yet to be announced, though that’s likely to change soon with Gamescom just around the corner. They say the majority of these projects are based on THQ properties.
With 13 unannounced projects in development, we’ll have a lot to add to our list of upcoming PC games!
For reference, the THQ properties acquired by Nordic are Titan Quest, Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Juiced, Stuntman, Destroy All Humans!, Deadly Creatures, Full Spectrum Warrior, the Outfit, Summoner, and De Blob. Certainly not all of those are certified classics, but there are some excellent games and some concepts well worth revisiting in there.
“Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than ‘owning’ a highly competitive portfolio of IPs. We cherish them, and align them with the very best development resources to expand upon them with the level of experience that communities and established fan bases expect and deserve.”
