Developer Visceral Games has announced in the Battlefield: Hardline forum that a new update will be released today for their cops-and-robbers shooter Battlefield: Hardline, as well as the Getaway expansion pack for Premium subscribers; the expansion will be available to non-Premium members on January 29.
According to the forum post, the update will add 5v5 skill-based Competitive matches, where players will compete on a leaderboard and earn (or lose) ranks based on their skill and performance. The Competitive matches seem to be Electronic Arts’ way of making Battlefield: Hardline viable for eSport competition.
The update will also add nine new weapons including the M5SD, AWS, RO933 M1, G17 RACE Pistol, 1887, 388-RECON, UMP-9, M39 EMR, and SAR21. They will be available for all classes.
The Getaway expansion will add four new maps, including Double Cross, Train Dodge, Diversion and Pacific Highway. It will also add a new game mode, “Capture the Bag”, and four new vehicles. The Mechanics class will be completely revamped, re-balancing the old weapons and getting a few new weapons as well as a new gadget called the RF Jammer. For those who want to be murderous firemen, the fire axe has been added as a new melee weapon.
The patch and expansion will be available for all versions of the game, including PC as well as current-next and last-gen consoles.
