RPG-Investigation game, Call of Cthulhu, has just released two new images of Darkwater Island – a disturbing location that players will have to explore “while Cthulhu, the Great Dreamer, prepares its awakening”.
Call of Cthulhu puts players in control of former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston, Edward Pierce. As Pierce, players will investigate the mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family in Darkwater Island.
Cyanide Studios has stated that today’s images give us a glimpse of the locations players will have to visit in the game. We can expect to wander around sinister-looking docks and the manor house of the deceased family in this digital adaptation of Chaosium’s pen & paper RPG.
“True horror awaits in the atmospheric Darkwater Island” and players will unearth dark secrets and discover ominous forces along their journey. However, the game will not be the ‘true horror’ found in games like Amnesia, or Outlast, confirmed by narrative designer Maximilian Lutz in this interview. “We want the atmosphere of a horror game, but not all the time. You’ll be able to catch your breath in this game – it won’t always be stressful”.
