There's a new parkour game coming to Steam, and in a time where a long-promised Mirror's Edge sequel has been and gone, we have to take what we can get!
Downward hits Steam Early Access December 19. Billing as taking place in "the medieval ruins of a post-apocalyptic Planet Earth", the video might not reflect your initial idea of this.
You're not some knight in scuffed up armour somehow leaping from castle turrets like some Prince of Persia character, you're scaling abstract shapes by hopping onto little wind pockets and grappling onto floating objects. Containing around 50% of the full game in Early Access alone, Downward's features section paint a broader picture.
Did you know we might be seeing Mirror's Edge on the silver screen? Who knows when we'll hear about that again.
“Command the sky to influence the environment, affecting both visuals and parkour. Distort gravity, control heat, or summon floods… your surroundings may be your only ally.” There's hints of it in the trailer for sure, but so far we're getting a slightly sci-fi fantasy take on the parkour jumper. "feedback can help us fine-tune all the intricate details of the game." say the developers. They're not wrong.
Downward hits Steam Early Access December 19 and will contain roughly 3 hours of content. Which is, in total, around 50% of the final game's planned launch content.
