Dishonored 2 launch sales are down 38% due to that of its predecessor in the UK according to Chart-Track. This is only for physical copies sold, leaving this to be mostly console sales, but this is still a significant sales drop either way.
While digital downloads will no doubt make up some of those numbers, analysts believe that the digital sales won’t close the gap significantly, so we are still talking about a double digit gap. This comes in the wake of Dishonored 2 getting bombarded with negative Steam reviews on PC after players experienced poor performance issues.
The physical copies sold are mostly going to be console copies, given that most console players don’t buy digital copies due to poor server speed and limited hard drive space on consoles. This means that even will the digital sales, Dishonored 2 has not performed up to the expectations desired by Bethesda.
This could be result of a combination of reasons including the lack of pre-release reviews, due to Bethesda’s new policy, and negativity online becase of PC port issues and the success of other games in the October/November line up such as Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare. It is likely that Dishonored 2 will pick up more long term sales as time goes by which will possibly make up the gap in sales figures.
