Variety has revealed that major film producer Michael De Luca has come to an agreement with author Dmitry Glukhovsky to bring Metro 2033 to the silver screen.
De Luca is best known for producing such acclaimed films as American History X, The Social Network and Captain Phillips. He joins Sin City: A Dame to Kill For producer Stephen L’Heureux.
Glukhovsky is more than pleased with the development. The writer told Variety, ”My novel and I have been waiting for this to happen for the last 10 years. I have previously been extremely careful about handing my ‘baby’ over to Hollywood producers for adaption for a feature film, but now I feel that it has landed in the right hands. De Luca and L’Heureux have a great vision for this project, and I feel it’s an honor to work with them.”
Metro 2033 was released as a videogame back in March 2010, earning mixed reviews (including a 7.0/10 score from GameWatcher’s review), but its unique setting made it a best-seller. Subsequent games in the series include Metro 2033 Redux in 2014, which earned far more praise.
