Oh, boy. While I’ve had no issues with my Windows 10 install and would probably recommend the upgrade, it seems like Microsoft may be forcing user’s hands.
As PC Gamer reports it seems that Microsoft has been “making it easier to upgrade to Windows 10” by designating it a recommended update, which under default Windows 7 settings will cause it to download and install.
It’s supposed to give you ample chance to decline before concluding the installation, but it seems that folks are having more than a little difficulty opting out. In some cases, it seems that it’s just following automatic update standard operating procedure by simply giving users a 15 minute warning before going ahead with the install. If you’re not at your PC every second of the day, well, that’s maybe a shorter time frame than you’d like.
I’m not going to try and paint Windows 10 as some horrible monstrosity. It’s a solid OS, in my experience. But strong-arming users into the upgrade is pretty gross. Come on, Microsoft. We don’t expect better, but we deserve better.
