Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is an RPG that takes place in the strange worlds of H.P. Lovecraft. The developers of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, Cultic Games, have shown off their first gameplay trailer which you can find at the bottom of this page.
Stygian allows you to create a character using a selection of origin stories, trailers, belief systems are more. This will allow the player to determine how their character replenishes lost sanity, as well as providing unique dialog choices.
As you can probably tell from the gameplay video, the combat will be quite difficult as you come across terrifying monsters. Stygian allows your character to cast spells, but spell-casting will have a lasting effect on your character in the form of sanity loss. Sanity loss leads to mental illnesses which may be a deciding factor in choosing whether to fight or retreat in combat.
The developers have grown up reading Lovecraft and playing games like the original Fallout games, Planescape: Torment and Heroes of Might and Magic. If you like any of those series of games/books and would like to see a game inspired by all of those things, you’ll want to keep an eye out on Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones.
