You might not know about it, but N is very good. So is its sequel, N+. And rounding out the trio of excellence is the final, greatest version of them all: N++. It released on PlayStation 4 last year, but didn’t really find much success despite its quality. But thankfully, it’s hitting Steam next week, giving new players a chance to check it out.
N++ is an ultra-challenging 2D platformer featuring an intensely nuanced system of movement physics. Momentum carries you through jumps, up walls, and over hills, but too much speed will send you careening into a wall or a carefully laid trap, ranging from mines to rocket launchers, to moving lasers.
The game includes over 2,000 hand-crafted levels, with a full level editor and in-game support for downloading custom stages, and both standard and custom levels have full leaderboards and replays. Local co-op and competitive multiplayer will give you the chance to challenge your friends in ninja platforming trials.
I played a fair bit of the game’s PlayStation 4 edition, and if you have any love for 2D platformers, you should absolutely give it a shot. N++ will hit Steam on August 25.
