Just when it feels like every game makes us of some kind of procedural generation to do most of its heavy lifting, we're reminding of another. If you're still going with Starbound, you have a lot to look forward to when it comes to the 1.2 update.
Focusing on the post-game experience, these having completed the main story of the 2D-adventure title should find more to do with the addition of Ancient Gateways.
Accessed by visiting the 'mysterious trader' at the Outpost, you'll be sent on a mission to activate the Ancient Gatesways scattered around various systems; with the randomly generated Ancient Vault within offering a true test of your combat prowess.
Spending many years in development, Starbound only released into 1.0 earlier this year.
With certain monsters recently gaining resistance to specific types of damage, the 'Ancient Anvil' found at the end of these dungeons should help combat the issue by allowing for upgrades to be applied to your growing collection of legendary weapons. Just be prepared to put up a bit of a fight to reach it.
But with a few hidden treasures buried deep inside, you'll be able to reshape the worlds around you. There's more than what meets the eye this time around, but you'll have to read up on the patch notes to see the bigger picture.
