Starbound Latest Updates
Starbound Just Got It's Second Major Update - Start Reforging Those Legendary Weapons
Just when it feels like every game makes us of some kind of procedural generation to do most of its heavy lifting, we're reminding of another. If you're still going with Starbound, you have a lot to look forward to when it comes to the 1.2 update.
Starbound leaves Steam Early Access after five years, finally has a release date
If you’ve been to any type of gaming convention in the last few years (at least in the UK), you will have seen Starbound chilling out in a corner somewhere. That ‘little’ indie game has finally received a release date. Not an Early Access phase-two release date, not even a beta release date – it’s an official release date on Steam. “After ~5 years, the game we set out to make finally exists, and to say that it all feels a bit surreal would be a massive understatement!” wrote Chucklefish, the developers of Starbound on their blog. “While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’t the end. We will continue to update and support Starbound for as long as we can.”
After years of development, Starbound is hitting 1.0 soon
The space-themed sandbox, Starbound, has been in Early Access since late 2013, but a final release is imminent.
GOG is starting their own curated version of Steam's Early Access program
Early Access is a tricky subject. On one hand, it's absolutely great to see some amazing titles come out early where a community can actively be involved in the development and progress of a cool and otherwise unfundable project. On the other hand, Early Access can also be a cesspool of uninspired drivel. GOG has announced they will be trying their hand at the system, but with strict curation to keep out the junk.
Sci-fi sandbox Starbound gets massive update
Developer Chucklefish has updated its sci-fi sandbox game Starbound with a big new patch – called the Pleased Giraffe update for some reason - that adds a new Colony feature, allowing players to set up a base and attract new NPCs. Also included are new Challenge Rooms to test your combat and platforming skills, a revised merchant interface for selling your unwanted rubbish, and a tonne of other new items, armour and places to explore.
