Obduction, the adventure title from the original Myst developers at Cyan Worlds, was set to release next Tuesday. While the game’s complete, the team felt they didn’t have enough time to fully test the title for bugs and glitches, and so they’re giving it a month-long delay to fully polish the upcoming adventure. The new release is set for the week of August 22.
The developers are intentionally keeping the details on Obduction vague, since uncovering mysteries is what Myst-like adventures are all about, but we do know that you’ll be playing as a character abducted from earth and stranded on a series of alien worlds, searching for a way back home. You’ll explore and solve puzzles as you make your way towards one of multiple endings.

”We were so close, we could ship,” said the game’s producer, Ryan Warzecha. ”But we came to the unanimous decision that if we shipped it was driven mainly by the deadline — not because we were satisfied. Obduction is a product that we’re very proud of, and we don’t want to let unpolished edges get in the way of an amazing immersive experience.
”So with humble hearts, but admittedly a bit of relief, we’re taking another few weeks (until the week of August 22nd) to do a bit more cleaning and polishing. No excuses, we should be better with our estimated completion dates. It’s really hard — please forgive us.” I think we can find it in our hearts to forgive one last delay, Ryan. Just make it worthwhile.
