Day after day it becomes more clear that the true purpose of the VR future is to kill you with a heart attack. While it’s entirely possible to have a deep, meaningful experience when donning your preferred VR headset through educational, colourful or sensory audio experiences, developers are seeing more and more opportunity in having you flail around the room as a ghoul chases you through a dark forest or spooky house.
The latest to have that glint in its eye? Broken Window Studios. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014 to fast-track development of Grave - a more open-world horror experience - the company is looking to release a streamlined VR experience of the same title. Employing a Look-to-travel system, Grave VR is said to more heavily emphasize story over that of other VR titles.
Creative Director, Tristan Parrish Moore explained the combat system of Grave VR by saying “Instead of pistols, shotguns and uzis, players will be tasked with finding the right uses for items like matches, flashlights and flares.”
Launching on October 25th on SteamVR/HTC Vive, the company is looking to release Playstation VR and Oculus counterparts before the year’s end.
