I don’t know how this title slipped under my radar for so long. Funded on Kickstarter back in 2013, Hyper Light Drifter is an impossibly stylish action adventure RPG with old school influences. It’s now got a release date, and that date is very soon.
I hadn’t seen a second of gameplay footage before watching the new trailer, but that trailer is absolutely mesmerizing. Watch it yourself below. Pixel art is wildly overused among indie games, but the design here is intricate and incredible. It looks to play like a far more action-oriented Zelda title, and that’s a-okay by me.
The official description paints the setting. ”Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease.” Sounds vague and surreal, which is right up my alley.
Hyper Light Drifter is due out March 31 for PC and Mac. It’s currently available for pre-order via the Humble Store for $17.99, and will be available on Steam as well.
