If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the launch of Fallout 4’s Survival Mode, you’ll be pleased to know that Bethesda has confirmed on Twitter that it will be launching on Steam in beta next week.
The Survival Mode is essentially a hardcore mode, which ramps up the difficulty settings, like only allowing you to save your progress by sleeping in a bed. If you’ve played a lot of Fallout 4 you’ll know that it’s impossible to sleep if there’s danger nearby, so you’ll need to deal with that danger before you can save your progress. Fast-travel has been removed, enemies won’t appear on your radar, ammo has its own weight, and you’ll take more damage too.
The “wellness” mechanic is activated with the Survival Mode, which adds an interesting new dynamic to the game, forcing players to keep an eye on their hydration, hunger and fatigue, because if you start running low your Action Point meter won’t refill as high.
“Once it’s out of PC beta it’ll go to Steam release and we can submit for consoles,” said Bethesda’s vice president of marketing and PR Pete Hines in a Tweet. So it looks like PC’s will get it first, and once it’s moved out of beta the mode will arrive on consoles.
We’ll bring you more from the Survival Mode once we get access to it later next week.
