Fans of the Deponia adventure game series can rejoice, as Daedalic Entertainment has announced the latest game in the series, Deponia Doomsday, will be released digitally on the 1st March, 2016 for PC. Retail versions of the game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be released later in the year.
Doomsday opens with a nightmare of, well, Doomsday. ”The flying city of Elysium has fallen, hideous Fewlocks inhabit the junk planet Deponia and Rufus is apparently the sole (human) survivor. He sees only one way out: Deponia must be blown up.” At that point, Rufus wakes up, but is it a dream - or a premonition?
Deponia Doomsday deals with time travel, as Rufus visits the past and future with the help of a time machine. Along the way, he meets ”over 70 new oddball characters.” The themes of utopia versus dystopia are explored, and according to the publisher, it takes its cues from such films as Elysium and Interstellar.
The game, which is developed by Jan Müller-Michaelis, follows the events of Goodbye Deponia and features 20 hours of gameplay and over 100 game backgrounds. Daedelic calls it ”the largest and most elaborate Deponia game so far,” with plenty of ”fan service” for those who have stuck with the series over the years.
