It’s amazing to think that it’s already been a year since Psyonix rolled out a smash hit centered around RC cars playing soccer, but here we are. The team is happily moving into the new year with significant changes for Rocket League and Season 2 will be coming soon for the game.
Psyonix announced details for Season 2 and the coming changes to Rocket League via a Steam Community post. Players will be receiving a rank recent as Psyonix prepares to revamp the ranking and division systems entirely. Rank Points will be going away and Skill Rating will be the sole determinant of player level. New rankings will start Prospect I at the bottom and go all the way up to Champion, as shown in the graphic below.
Other changes coming include the removal of player caps in divisions, meaning the best of the best will not be deterred from their place at the top simply because there are too many players there. Players in the top 100 of each skill division will be shown through Preseason and into the regular season on the leaderboards. Psyonix claims all of these changes are to ”de-emphasize the importance of single wins or losses and put the focus where it belongs – consistently playing well and improving your game over time.”
Season 2 is expected to roll out in February and Psyonix promises more updates in the near future as the new season dawns.
