Reverie World Studios has announced its upcoming real-time grand strategy game, Knights of the Crusades, will be hitting Steam Early Access in May.
Knights of the Crusades blends real-time strategy, city-building, and sandbox gameplay into one package. It’s set during the First Crusade (1096-1099) where you plot a course across Europe and into the Holy Land to participate in the various battles and events that charted this era.
The game will be hitting Steam Early Access on May 5th, 2025. This early version of it will include all the core mechanics and a full campaign. The game’s official description reads:
“Knights of the Crusades merges large-scale real-time warfare with layered strategic systems. Construct and upgrade settlements, manage vital resources, and command your forces across sprawling provinces. Whether through siegecraft, trade, or political maneuvering, every action carries weight in your quest for power.
“Unlike traditional strategy games, faith is more than a narrative theme—it’s a core system. Players must manage piety to maintain influence, avoid excommunication, and unlock divine blessings, turning religion into a strategic pillar of power.
“No two campaigns will play the same, short-term tactics must be carefully balanced against long-term ambition.”
Crusader Kings fans might find this enjoyable for its themes and subject matter, though it does look to be quite a different style of strategy game.
With it being an early access title, Reverie World Studios will be taking player feedback on board throughout this period. It’ll also be providing regular developer updates and patches to ensure the game hits the level of quality it’s happy with.
If you’re interested in the game, you can wishlist it now ahead of its early access release on May 5th, 2025. There’s also a free demo available, in case you wanted to try it before you buy it.
