As a US-native, I’m completely unfamiliar with the BBC’s Time Commanders. Apparently it ran for two seasons–sorry, two “series”–and featured contestants vying for battlefield success in a custom game engine by Creative Assembly. That sounds like a real good time to me, and after a decade-long hiatus, the show is coming back.
The new show will feature two competing teams of three players each, made up of friends, family, or coworkers, as they face off first against computer-controlled opponents, and then against each other. The battles will be set up by “historical experts,” so maybe don’t expect any Warhammer campaigns here.
There’s a TV show in the works, but there are a whole lot of games in the making, too! Check out our list of upcoming PC games!
The BBC website features an application where you can sign up to take part in the series. Total War and Creative Assembly aren’t actually mentioned by name there, but the Total War Twitter account linked to them directly, so it’s probably safe to assume that part of the relationship will continue.
As an American, though, I’m just going to wait for the return of History Channel’s Decisive Battles. There’s surely room for video game-based recreations of historical conflicts somewhere between all the weird conspiracy theory shows, right?
