This Thursday, not only is Total War: Warhammer getting a paid expansion adding the Beastmen race, an update will go out for all players featuring a bunch of updates and additions, including new heroes, new features, and even a new lore of magic. That’s free, even if you’re not planning to pick up the Call of the Beastmen pack.
The Beastmen themselves will show up to haunt your campaigns, as the monstrous faction will be an NPC faction in all versions of the game, whether or not you’ve bought the DLC. In multiplayer, if you’re matched against a Beastmen player you might be drawn into a battle on a Beastpath map, but you’ll also have access to four new maps against all opponents. There are a variety of multiplayer changes, but the most notable is that players can now customize their hero units.

Speaking of hero units, a new addition is coming to the Empire in the form of the Amber Wizard. The only non-Beastman unit who can call on the Lord of Beasts, the Amber Wizard is able to commune with animals and summon great beasts. The new wizard also has access to a unique mount–a mighty, jade-green griffon.
Those are some significant additions, and you can expect it to launch for free alongside the Call of the Beastmen pack this Thursday. If you’re curious about what that paid package includes, we’ll be able to share our impressions soon.
