We live in a post-Duke Nukem Forever world. Let that sink in for a minute. Sure, Duke Nukem Forever might not have been great, and it might have forever cemented Duke as a 90s relic and icon of adolescent masculine fantasies forever, but at least it’s finally out. Now it sounds like a remaster of Duke Nukem 3D might be on the way.
According to a redditor citing an anonymous source, the title will be called Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour, and it will feature a lot of new content possibly including online co-op and deathmatch play. Don’t get too excited about the term “remaster,” though, as according to the leaked screenshots it doesn’t seem that there’s much in the way of graphical updates.
”These are official,” the reddit poster quotes their source as saying. ”This is a Duke 3D remaster. In many ways, you can look at this game as a Duke Nukem 3D remix as there will be a lot of new/original content added in as well. From my understanding, these screens are just a handful out of a bunch of press shots that will be coming out in the following days.”
The official Duke website is hosting a countdown for the series’ 20th anniversary, and a number of new social media accounts have been registered under the “Duke World Tour” banner, so expect confirmation one way or the other quite soon.
