Capcom are following in the steps of Valve, you know, where they have almost no concept of what a schedule is. Street Fighter 5’s updates were originally intended to occur monthly, but Capcom struggled to stick to their own schedule almost immediately after launching the game. After the fighting game tournament CEO concluded, Capcom revealed a brand new trailer showing off Balrog in all his boxing glory.
Balrog returns to the Street Fighter series, along with his classic Street Fighter 2 stage. Unlike Street Fighter 4, Balrog appears to have his headbutt assigned to his V-Reversal. Unfortunately, Balrog’s headbutt cannot be used to combo into super. Maybe you can use it to combo in the corner, but it looks like the opponent falls too quickly for Balrog to do anything.
Remember, Ibuki was planned to arrive in the June update which eventually got delayed to July. Ibuki’s release also comes with a brand new stage: Estate at Noon. Street Fighter 5 players will instantly recognise the stage as being a daylight version of Kanzuki Estate (Karin’s stage). While this isn’t exactly a ‘brand new’ stage, it is a slight variation which we are sure will cost you some form of money.
Juri and Urien also make an appearance in the trailer, as they will be playable (not in their complete balanced form) in the Cinematic Story Mode. Juri sports a brand new skin-tight leather outfit in this version of Street Fighter. We are sure this outfit is ‘fan service’ to all those Juri fans out there… Urien also marks his debut in a Street Fighter game, the first since Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Not only does he make his debut in a new Street Fighter game, this is also the first game Urien has ever worn more than a loincloth in.
Balrog, Ibuki and the Cinematic Story Mode will arrive on July 1st.
