Thanks to an interview by GameStar and the translation by Reddit user Pawel95, a huge amount of information has come out about CD Projekt’s current and future titles.
The forty-five minute interview was broken up into three sections: General things, details about the new Witcher 3 expansion and brief comments about Cyberpunk 2077. The two members of CD Projekt being interviewed include their PR/Social media manager (on the right of the picture above), one of their quest designers (in the middle of the picture above).
General things:
• Many questions to the quest-designer, about what were the most fun and most annoying things to do: He said, he was one of the two designers that had to place all people in Novigrad. This involved giving them tasks, etc
• It wasn’t really hard to fill the world with content, the quest designer said sometimes they even felt like they ran out of space. However, the developers know that these barrels at Skellige were not really “great content” to fill the land
• They do NOT plan to remaster Witcher 1 + Witcher 2
• They do NOT plan to bring out a retail version that gives you all 3 games in one package (they argued that Witcher 1/Witcher 2 is almost free at sales)
• They might release about a GOTY edition for The Witcher 3 with all patches, DLC and expansions included
Those who may have been hoping for a Witcher 1 remaster will be slightly disappointed to hear this news, though it is understandable that the developers would not waste their time remastering old games when they have new ones in the pipeline. The comment about the two previous games being practically free in sales is true at this point, sales for those games have seen them both drop to under £5 for each of them. These general comments have also reassured players that the developers now know how to fill huge amounts of space, which is going to be perfect for their final DLC expansion – Blood and Wine.
About the Blood and Wine expansion:
• New area of the expansion will be about “as big as all islands of Skellige combined”
• New Gwent deck, Skellige, will be released at the same time as the expansion
• No release date yet, though it should be out before E3
• Talked about how their felt the price/content ratio for the season pass was fair
• They don’t plan to go on sale with the season pass right after release
• Graphics for the new area have been improved and CDPR was thinking if they should replace for example the grass on the whole map with the new, better grass
• A joke was made that the improved graphics now look better than what we saw at the E3 2014 trailer
The Blood and Wine expansion sounds like it will be extremely large. We’ve included a map of the Skellige islands which should give you an idea of how expansive the land is. It appears fans won’t have to wait too long for the DLC as it will be out before E3 (which starts June 14th). It sounds like CD Projekt have managed to improve the already stunning graphics of the game by changing the grass, though at this point in time we are unsure of how much better it looks compared to the base game.
Cyberpunk 2077
• A few days ago someone found out that CD Projekt is searching for people that will help developing the engine of Cyberpunk 2077, that’s why there were rumours that the team hasn’t even started yet the project yet
• Döhla (the PR manager) said they can’t say anything. Neither they can say if they already saw playable content, nor can they say the opposite However, he brought up an interesting comparison: “It’s like you have a house for a few years and want to renew some things. You bring a cement mixer and start working. People will see that and say ‘Man, they haven’t even finished the house yet’. It’s the same about the tools for Cyberpunk 2077
This confirms the suspicions about the game not even starting development yet are false.
Any German speakers can head over to GameStar’s Facebook page where they have uploaded the full interview.
If you haven’t already checked out our review of The Witcher 3, you can do so right here. Chris Capel said: “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an absolute triumph and the best open-world RPG around, maybe even the best altogether”. If that isn’t a glowing recommendation, I don’t know what is.
A big thanks goes to GameStar for conducting the interview and Reddit user Pawel95 for translating it.
