Hey, folks! You can tune into GameWatcher’s Twitch channel Monday through Friday at 8PM GMT/4PM Eastern for an hour long stream of the latest and maybe greatest in PC gaming. We’ll be hitting big new releases, indie curiosities, and Early Access works-in-progress, so be sure to have a look for first impression gameplay footage of a wide variety of titles.
Today we once again delve into the world of survival horror with NightCry, the latest from survival horror legend Hifumi Kono. Kono is best known for the Clock Tower series, games which blended survival horror with point-and-click adventure. NightCry is a spiritual successor to those titles, right down to its villain’s weapon of choice–a pair of giant scissors. Not only is the game development pedigree impressive, there was also input from Takashi Shimizu, director of the Grudge.
NightCry puts you aboard a cruise liner, and your luxurious vacation starts to go off the rails after crew members and fellow guests start to turn up dead. Half of the game takes place in what’s called exploration mode, where you seek out items, work out puzzles, and try to solve the mystery of the ship’s monstrous murderer. Once you’ve encountered the monster, things switch to escape mode, where you do your best to escape by running, using traps, and hiding. The game will feature multiple endings based on who lives and dies.
Curious if Japanese-style survival horror still works today? Then tune in at 8PM GMT/4PM Eastern for a full hour of NightCry gameplay! I’ll try not to develop a crippling fear of scissors.
