Ever wanted to see some of the characters Capcom don’t end up using in their games? Street Fighter 5 director Takayuki Nakayama gave fans the opportunity to get a look at some of the characters that didn’t make the cut. The Street Fighter series isn’t known for having incredibly detailed characters, and yes, these concepts are obviously rough ideas but it’s still interesting to see what the developers even considered.
I’m not going to show you all of these characters because there are quite a few of them, so I’ll just pick some of my favourites. The first character is Prototype Shadaloo Soldier, because what says generic henchman more than a black predator man? This is what Nakayama said about this character, “A design that takes inspiration from the Aliens vs. Predator franchise. If you look at it like that, this Shadaloo soldier is pretty idyllic.”
The second best character is Fighting President. Yes, Fighting President. He is a fighting president who wears a white suit and red tie. Gosh darn, that’s so bad ass. Here’s what Nakayama had to say about this guy: “This character idea also came up during Street Fighter IV. Seems like Akiman also came up with an idea for a fighting politician.” Fighting. President.
The third, but by no means the worst character is Fighting Literary Master. I genuinely don’t even understand this one. He’s a guy who loves books, but he fights. What? Nakayama tries to justify this character by saying this: “You need wits, not only power, in a fight! He’s an old man that constantly grumbles to himself. The pen is not mightier than the sword in this game, however. Next!”
