The Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta is in full gear for pre-order customers, with everyone else able to join October 6. Players have been digging into the PC version and have datamined a lot of interesting pictures and information that EA haven't previously revealed. Possibly the most notable is that players will be able to customise their Rebel Alliance characters using multiple Star Wars races. Details below.
Our hands-on impressions with Star Wars Battlefront 2!
The Best Star Wars Games On PC! We may have a new one on there in November!
Datamining Star Wars Battlefront 2 has only just begun, but the addition of multiple different playable races is a nice customization option that we're surprised EA hasn't mentioned before. A few different races were available for the Rebels in the last Battlefront but they came much later, and usually meant a specific class. Here are the current races confirmed as coming to Battlefront 2:
- Quarren - aka "Squid Heads"
- Rodian - like Greedo, the Bounty Hunter who Han Shot First
- Sullustan - same as Nien Nunb, Lando's Millennium Falcon co-pilot
- Twi'lek - blue tentacle-headed humanoid, like the dancers in Jabba's Palace (or Hera from Rebels)
- Weequay - like Jabba's guards. No, not the pig guys.
- Zabarak - like Darth Maul, horned heads.
- Nikto - another one of Jabba's guards.
- Duros - large domed head and big eyes.
You can see early pictures of these guys in the thread here.
While these races are currently just confirmed for the Rebels, we're presuming they'll be available for the Sequel Trilogy's Resistance too. Obviously they won't be available for the First Order, Empire, Republic (all humans, or clones) or Separatists (all droids).
Other unannounced news from the Beta includes the fact that campaign main character Iden Versio will be in the Multiplayer as a playable Villain, and that owners of the 2015 version of Battlefront will receive a special thank you Crate.
The Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta opens to all on October 6 and stays open until October 9. The main game has a release date of November 17. You can read our Impressions of the Naboo Assault map here and we'll be posting videos on our Youtube Channel shortly.
