After more than two years in active development, it's been a whole year since Frontier Developments let the players shape Planet Coaster with its alpha release. In a game with so much player freedom, what have they all managed to piece together?
The answer? Likely a whole load of ancient civilisation monuments and fancy pagoda. The joy of Planet Coaster comes from not only building a coaster to crack the necks of your visitors or have them shying away in the middle of the line, but by building letting their imaginations run wild as they turn arbitrary shapes into agricultural masterpieces to pull off themed parks the developers never even considered.
One year on, the community is still bursting at the seams with new constructional creations, and the Planet Coaster team has begun to look back on the fear and fun of the last year and praise the community for turning something they weren't even sure was wanted into something they've all come together to share - and for being the reason their Community Manager had to experience their first livesteam.
As We Look Back At A Year Of Planet Coaster, We Look Forward To A VR Version All The Same
The game's Steam Store page is now fuelled by around a dozen messages from the developers thanking the community for their creations and remembered all the scares and concerns that came from release Planet Coaster into Alpha early last year. One such message from the Lead Designer said "Even when the first alpha came out we were amazed at the ingenuity and passion of the fans. One year later and we’re so happy that people continue to enjoy Planet Coaster, come together through the community, and create things we couldn’t imagine were possible when making the game."
Being mentioned as a invaluable helper at this year's PAX, 3PMusic pieced together the 1 Year Later video down below splicing together some fine examples of player passion with the pre-rendered cinematic that had players fall in love with the idea of Planet Coaster from the start.
Understandably, one year of hard work from the community means our Planet Coaster Mods page is bursting with new coasters, buildings and tweaks to have your park shining with the talent of the game's avid fanbase.
