Despite Star Wars Battlefront 2 being mired in controversy over Loot Boxes and player grief over the randomized progression system, EA and DICE have kicked off the season of in-game events to celebrate this month's release of the new movie - Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.
Our Guide to getting Credits quickly in Star Wars Battlefront 2, with the minimal amount of orphans!
Our review of Star Wars Battlefront 2!
As EA and DICE promised on their blog, the season of events to celebrate the release of The Last Jedi on December 15 has kicked off. Logging on to the game now brings up this screen:
Players have to choose what side to take in the conflict - Resistance or First Order. This can't be changed apparently, so no idea what you'll need to do to earn the rewards for the other side. Players will get an Epic Booster Crate if their faction wins, granting massive gameplay bonuses to 50% of the game's players and leaving the rest to quit the game in disgust - honestly, we wonder if EA even thinks these things out before they do it.
The other bonus is a special Star Card for the upcoming new Heroes Finn and Captain Phasma, which you have to earn by completing Challenges. The first looks like this, for The First Order (which we chose):
We went into Galactic Assault and were immediately put into a battle on Starkiller Base as The First Order, so we don't know if that's coincidence or on purpose - if so will there only be the 2-3 Force Awakens maps available for all of December? We hope not.
Of more concern was the fact that, for the first time ever, we had trouble getting a game of Galactic Assault - the main game mode of Star Wars Battlefront 2. Previously no matter the time of day we'd get a game of any mode instantly - now even the main mode we had to wait around for a few minutes for a enough players to join. Worse, at least 2 members of our team were AFK credit farmers.
We had and are generally still having fun with Star Wars Battlefront 2, but the progression system is a mess and ruins the game. Some people won't be able to get what they need just to progress, and others (many, many others) will have a full suite of Tier 4 Purple Star Cards and be greatly overpowered, ruining the balance of the game.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out December 15, and both the Campaign expansion, New Maps and Heroes will be out for Battlefront 2 around that same time.
