There's a 'Classic JRPG For Modern Times' coming this year, but it likely isn't what you're expecting. Guardians of Arcadia has a new trailer.
Presumably taking notes from the Nintendo DS remakes of Final Fantasy III and IV alongside games like Bravely Default and I Am Setsuna, indie group Fabula Epica is looking to release Guardians of Arcadia sometime this year.
Apparently split into episodes like too many RPGs of the modern generation, the group recently released its first complete trailer. With a logo that's unmistakably modeled after the classic Final Fantasy titles - sans the Yoshitaka Amano artwork - the Arcadia tagline will likely entice anyone familiar with Sega's classic Skies of Arcadia series.
Enjoying Paragon? You'll get to enjoy it with a new character tomorrow. Serath is coming!
Aiming to provide a nostalgia trip through mixing elements of both new and older JRPGs, Guardians of Arcadia brings higher-resolution assets to a game with a somewhat aged - but still adored - turn-based battle system. Pepper a wolf with arrows, traverse a vast overworld and question the pavement layout of a nearby town in the forest before the year ends.
Guardians of Arcadia already has a Steam page to check out, and we'll likely hear more of the game before it finally goes up for purchase.
