Whether you currently have a Guild Wars 2</b> account or not, you'll be able to play the opening chapter of its upcoming Path of Fire expansion this weekend.
Guild Wars 2 was the MMO sequel that felt like something that had been on the horizon for many, many years. Flaunting a beautiful artstyle and some really pretty watercolour effects, it was held in high regard for spicing up the Guild Wars formula from way back in 2005. It didn't look exactly like its predecessor, but it had most of the same charm.
Announced just last week, Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire is the game's second expansion - following Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. And despite is only recently being announced, this weekend will have players new and old rush into the Crystal Desert for a taste of what's to come.

April Fools Was A Very Wacky Time For Guild Wars 2 Players
Those familiar with ArenaNets original adventures through Ascalon will know the Crystal Desert is just South of the place they called home for many years. Rest assured, it's more than just a regular old desert, too - if the 'Crystal' part didn't make it sound a little more fanciful. PCGamer's preview notes it being fully loaded with sub-biomes creating every kind of 'desert' you can think of - including crystals, of course.
Once you hit up the Amnoon Oasis, you're encouraged to take in the sights and earn yourself a Raptor mount. Because we all know dinosaurs are the best mode of transportation in the sandy reaches. The full deal is set to release September 22, but existing players may want to check out the Elite Specializations preview next weekend, too. Register here, if you haven't already.
