Two years ago in October 2015 the unlikely combination of n-Space (known for handheld ports) and Digital Extremes (Warframe) released a Dungeons & Dragons RPG called Sword Coast Legends, promising a "return to the golden era when complex story-driven, party-based RPGs dominated the PC" and somewhat predictably it wasn't very good. Now the license is up and Sword Coast Legends will be pulled from Steam at the end of December, with a sale on for anyone who wants it.

Here's what you should be playing: Divinity Original Sin 2!
As the D&D license has not been renewed by Digital Extremes or Wizards of the Coast, and developer N-Space sadly went out of business in 2016, so there's been no further updates to the game since the Rage of Demons free DLC in May 2016, Sword Coast Legends will be delisted from Steam at the end of December 2017. If you want to give it a go, it's 67% off on Steam which makes it around £3.67/$4.94. This includes the Rage of Demons expansion for free.
Rather nicely, the multiplayer servers (and hopefully all the user-created stuff) will remain online for as long as Digital Extremes supports it. Here's what they said:
"Our publishing contracting is ending, but although Sword Coast Legends will no longer be available to purchase after December, its multiplayer servers will remain live indefinitely."
It's rather sad to think that Sword Coast Legends is the only new Dungeons & Dragons game released since 2013...
Sword Coast Legends was meant to combine a classic CRPG in the style of Baldur's Gate, from the director of Dragon Age: Origins Dan Tudge, with a Neverwinter Nights level of user creation and a real-time Dungeon Master. Unfortunately, either down to the rushed launch, over-ambition or N-Space's own inexperience with RPGs the final experience wasn't that great. From our review:
"Sword Coast Legends fails to deliver on its promises both as a solid RPG in it’s own right and as a digital Dungeon Master toolset. The limited options available to creators are unlikely to yield anything memorable and the single player story section is marred by poor pathfinding, limited scope and shoddy writing. Overall an immense disappointment."
We're certainly curious, and we may well pick it up just to see if updates improved it. Anyone want to join us, or have you played it and want to share your thoughts? Head to the comments below!
