The latest Dev Diary for Surviving Mars is here, and developer Haemimont talk about the iconic Domes that cover cities in the games, as well as going into detail about the colonists who live in them. Details below.
Our impressions of Surviving Mars!
Will Surviving Mars make the list of the Best Strategy Games on PC?
You can read the full Dev Diary 3 here, and you can check out the new Dome-specific trailer for the game right here or below.
The Dev Diary goes into detail about how expensive Domes are and what you need to consider placing them. "Placing any building takes valuable space, and you have to maintain a careful balance between residences and workplaces. Food production, research and production of advanced resources can be distributed between Domes, but you can also create specialized Domes focusing on one particular gameplay aspect." These aspects include farming, residential, mining and more.
The Dev Diary also goes into detail about looking after your Colonists and how they have four stats to tell you how healthy they are: Health, Sanity, Comfort and Morale. Obviously keeping these stats high has positive effects (High Comfort people will want to have children more) and if any fall low there will be negative effects (Low Sanity can have nervous breakdowns, Low Morale might cause trouble around the colony). Survivors will have certain Traits too, including "Survivor - Loses less Health without food, water, oxygen or when living in an unpowered Dome" or "Hypochondriac - Will randomly visit Medical buildings and take Sanity damage if unable to do so".
It all sounds really cool, if we're honest. We're always in the market for a good, original strategy-management sim title, and Surviving Mars is up there with Jurassic World: Evolution and whatever the heck these guys are up to as some of our most anticipated games of next year.
Surviving Mars is out Spring 2018.
