At a time where there's lots of talk about a wall, it's interesting to see a game surface all about bringing down walls - so to speak. All Walls Must Fall is that game, and it's being worked on by some of those who defected after Dead Island 2 went south.
Three of those who exited YAGER after Dead Island missed its chance for the sequel it rightfully deserved, they set up shop in Berlin and started work on a new game potentially inspired by the location itself. Hoping to head into Early Access this May, the team is looking for a minor cash injection through Kickstarter to get things rolling.
Having already been in development for well over a year, the InBetweenGames is hoping to have it in player's hands by May should the crowdfunding campaign go well. And should it, you'll find yourself traveling back in time - quite literally - as a group of secret agents tasked with stopping a surprise nuclear attack from turning the Cold War into a much more tense era - only this time, we're looking at 2089 in a world where the cold never subsided.
It May Be The Best Example, Or The Worst. But Here's Our XCOM 2 Review Anyway
Speaking through an unusual self-interview, Isaac - the game's main programming head - describes All Walls Must Fall as "... an isometric tactics game, with time travel.... Consider it XCOM meets Braid, with some REZ thrown in for spicy seasoning. The core gameplay is isometric, pausable tactics. Time is at the core of All Walls Must Fall, and everything happens on the beat. As a tactics game, you need to choose the best course of action, and so the game is paused while you’re planning what to do."
With the Kickstarter campaign kicking off on March 22 and the team slowly running out of cash, it's a necessary method of keeping the ball rolling on this one. There's no trailer just yet, but you can get a feel for its futuristic Berlin nightlife vibe with the screenshots above and look to the studio's past titles to get a feel for their methods. For that, here's a 10 minute timelapse of their 3-day Ludum Dare gamejam project 'OSHIYA! PUSH!'
