Company of Heroes was an excellent game, bringing the RTS genre into the Second World War in a way no other game had managed to. Made by the same team behind Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War, the title combined strategy and squad tactics into a unique and satisfying mix.
Company of Heroes 2... is another story. It abandoned much of what made the first game great, and would be the starting point for Relic's shameful descent into MOBA-like actions-per-minute gameplay that finally culminated in the abysmal Dawn of War III. With a severely stripped down strategy layer, focus on units and attacking instead of fortifications, and a truly pathetic campaign that depicts Russians as evil animals instead of people, the second game is arguably worse than the first, with a 75% approval rate compared to CoH 1's 93%.
However, Company of Heroes 2 can still be pretty fun, and it is free right now on Humble Store. The giveaway will last for the next 1 day and 7 hours from the time of writing, and comes with no strings attached -- as the wonderful Humble giveaways always do.
Go grab your copy, or send this to a friend so they can grab their own and MOBA with you. See you on the battlefield, soldier.
