Around half a year after launch, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III gains its biggest post-release update today. To celebrate, it's even going cheap (and free for a time, too).
Relic Entertainment's long-awaited RTS sequel - Dawn of War III - got off to a good start. But there's still plenty of people who think what came before was far better. Reflected by its 'mixed' review status on Steam, sales numbers likely tell a similar story.
Dubbed the 'Endless War' update, it makes you think this patch is designed to keep the game doing with minimal developer input in the future; but that's certainly not quite the case. Introducing new multiplayer maps, options, elite units and skins, it's a pretty big update they're putting out for free.
Michael called Dawn of War III "the return to war" in his review. Makes sense, right?
We round up the best Strategy games on PC so you don't have to dig around
In terms of numbers, you're getting five skins, three multiplayer maps, three Elite heroes and new custom match options to suit sadistic strategists. Elite units include the Ironclad Dreadnought for the Space Marines, Lifta-Droppa Wagon for the Orks (naturally) and the Wraithseer Kayduin for the Eldar. The three maps are aimed at 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 matchups. One for each.
You can learn more through the embedded trailer down below. If all this (and the removal of the Skull currency system in the past) is enough to coax you into the game, there's a Free Weekend event lasting into Sunday night. After that, the game itself will be 50% off until the following day.
