UPDATE #1: The PC beta is delayed! This is according to the Injustice Twitter feed, so they'll be the ones to know. New information as it follows! It has to start soon, though.
At long last Injustice 2 is coming to PC! We've long since predicted it and it's finally happening. We've been playing it on PS4 since the console release in May and have been following the game's release on PC closely - so here's Everything we know about the PC version of Injustice 2!
Injustice 2 is coming to PC! Here's what we want to see!
Injustice 2 On PC Could Share A Release Date With The Justice League Movie
When's the PC Open Beta and how can I join?
It was supposed to be October 25 but we're afraid it's been delayed! We don't know the exact details this instant [we'll update this as we know more] but it will probably be through Steam.
What's The Story?
Injustice 2 takes places in an alternate DC Comics universe, established by previous game Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Joker tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis, Superman kills Joker, and turns his back on his humanity to become a despot ruling over the Earth. It's now five years after Batman (with the help of the "regular" Earth-1 DC universe heroes) took down Superman's Regime, but there's now a new threat: the planet-collecting villain known as Brainiac. Batman, Superman, and the rest of the Injustice universe heroes will have to put aside their differences to face this new threat.
Is it good?
Very good! Any DC fan will be in absolute heaven, but even general fans will appreciate the movie-quality action and visuals, the excellent voice acting from a mixture of DC regulars (Kevin Conroy's Batman, George Newbern's Superman) and iconic actors (Robert Englund, Jeffrey Combs, Alan Tudyk), and the frankly fantastic animation (particularly with faces). The writing's pretty good too. It feels like a movie. A good one!
What's the Playable Character Roster for the PC Version?
Here's the full roster at launch of characters we know will definitely be playable.
What about the DLC characters?
There are a total of 10 DLC characters, although two have not yet been announced and four have not yet been released. At the moment, we are assuming that all of them will be available to the PC version as paid DLC and not included in the base game. The only possible DLC character that may get included is Darkseid, who was a pre-order bonus for the console version and may be again. Here is the full list of announced DLC characters so far:
What are Premier Skins, how many are there, and how can I get them?
Premier Skins are essentially extra characters, just with the same move set as another character. They have a different voice actor, new lines, and a unique design, but they cannot be customized and they are basically the same as the standard character they're based on. There are a total of Nine Premier Skins so far. They cost Source Crystals, which is an in-game currency. The console version gave four of these ('John Stewart' for Green Lantern, 'Power Girl' for Supergirl, and 'Reverse Flash' for the Flash, and recently 'Black Lightning' for Raiden) for free with the Ultimate Edition, but we don't know if the PC version will get that. These Source Crystals can be earned in-game but it's nearly impossible to earn enough to buy all the Premier Skins - so you may need to resort to microtransactions if you want them all. The 'Bizarro' one for Superman is the only one you really need, however. He's hilarious.
How does Gear work?
Gear is Injustice 2's unique way of both customizing your characters and giving them bonuses. As you play the game, you get Gear pieces which you can choose to equip on your character to give them various upgrades, either to their base stats or stuff like increasing damage to Kryptonian characters. These bonuses can be disabled in multiplayer, but it's certainly fun to at least make your own version of Batman or Harley Quinn.
What's the Multiverse?
Part of the reason Injustice 2 is so cool is that if you don't want to venture online and have finished the story, there's still an infinite amount of free gameplay available for single-player. Multiverse is an ever-changing series of battles, usually around a theme, where you take on a series on opponents to get Credits, Mother Boxes (Loot Crates basically) or straight Gear Pieces. These battles usually have some modifier, like low gravity, upside-down matches, having a buddy character to assist you, or randomly appearing obstacles. Then there's Legendary Multiverse for the best gear, which will take you a long time to do.
Wait, Loot Crates? I hate those!
Mother Boxes are, yes, basically Loot Crates, but seriously - don't worry about them. They cannot be bought with microtransactions directly, and you wouldn't want to buy Credits unless you're desperate to throw away money because (unlike Source Crystals, which you can't use on Mother Boxes) Credits are plentiful and Mother Boxes even more so. They are actually a fun little addictive extra to get you random (optional) stuff, and if you want proper Gear sets - play the Multiverse. Don't expect to get any really, really cool stuff in Mother Boxes, like Wonder Woman's movie outfit, that's all in the Multiverse. They're a fun little extra rather than something you need to spend money on to Pay-To-Win.
When is the PC version out?
"Autumn" is the only official word we've heard, which means any time between here and November. However we have suggested that Injustice 2 will probably have a PC release date of November 17, which is the same week the Justice League movie and the Hellboy DLC character release.
Will there be an Injustice 3 and will it be on PC?
Injustice 2 sold very well, in fact it's the biggest fighting game release ever, so an Injustice 3 is guaranteed. It is likely that will come to the PC too, but the only way to make sure is to buy Injustice 2 on PC when it comes out! If the PC version sells well we may even get Injustice 3 the same time as the console launch next time!
