Update:
Slitherine will be streaming Warhammer 40,00: Gladius - Relics of War for the first time TODAY at 2 PM EST / 7 PM GMT / 8 PM CET! That's in just two hours as we type this, and you can watch the whole thing with us below! It will be the first time they've shown off the game, and they will not be releasing this footage afterwards as they say it's a far from final version of the game. So it might be the last you see of Gladius until at least next year!
Check out the stream and chat below or head to their Twitch page!
Original Story:
Slitherine and Games Workshop have announced a new Warhammer 40,000 game, and it's a planet-based 4X Strategy game called Gladius - Relics of War. It's being developed by Proxy Studios, the creators of Pandora: First Contact. Details below.
Our Review of Total War: Warhammer II!
Here's where Total War: Warhammer 3 will be set and what races we can expect!
Here's the exciting setup from the press release:
"Gladius Prime was known to Imperial scholars as a planet of archeological interest. During its colonization ancient relics were found, revealing hints of a shrouded past. But it was more than relics. Something awakened, an unspeakable horror from an ancient past, and the citizens of Gladius found themselves trapped in a terrible war for survival. Gladius Prime was once a planet of peace. Now there is only war."
Neat. Slitherine say they're aiming to combine 4X strategy with a "combat-focused" system. There are four factions to choose from: Space Marines, Astra Militarum (aka Imperial Guard), Orks and Necrons, all of which play differently and have a unique technology tree. There will be special Hero units with enhanced abilities and huge war machines to control. There will be resources to harvest, technology to research, city edicts to issue and threatening wildlife to deal with. There's a picture of a massive sandworm and scorpion-like-thing in the picture above, that's a random occurrence rather than something enemy-controlled. Oh, and there'll be multiplayer too. It all looks quite fun, especially with the OTT Warhammer 40K setting.
Slitherine and Proxy will be showing the game off at the Nottingham Warhammer 40,000 Open Days event this weekend if you're close, otherwise they'll be streaming it on December 1 at 2 PM EST / 7 PM GMT / 8 PM CET.
Proxy's last game Pandora was touted as a spiritual successor to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, although we're not sure it panned out quite as well. Hopefully with Gladius they've sorted out the problems Pandora had.
