Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's increasingly popular online shooter, has become the 4th Most Played Steam Game. It beats previous holders Warframe, Team Fortress 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, and reached a played peak of 99,100 users over the weekend. This is especially interesting as, other than Steam general Autumn Sale (which all the popular games benefited from), Rainbow Six Siege did not have anything special happening such a free weekend.

Ubisoft confirms Rainbow Six Siege Year 3!
As we write this, Rainbow Six Siege is sitting as the 4th Most Popular Game on Steam with 54,953 concurrent users, beating GTA5, Warframe and Team Fortress 2 although all are nipping at its heels with 10,000 users between 4th and 7th place. This is when most of the world is asleep or at work/school, don't forget. The peak for the game came over the weekend at over 99K concurrent users, the most the game has ever had. While there was a general sale on, there was no free weekend so the massive leap in users is particularly amazing.
Don't forget, Rainbow Six Siege is not natively a Steam game - it's a Uplay title, so it's much more popular than just the Steam count. The latest Rainbow Six title has had a rocky history, launching in December 2015 to pretty good reviews but not massive player numbers. Ubisoft stuck with the title, improving it and adding to it, and now it's one of the most popular games on PC. It's user count recently took a massive leap with the free weekend last weekend, but the fact that not only did all those players stay but player counts actually increased afterwards is quite amazing.
Ubisoft certainly shouldn't rest on their laurels, though. Less than a month ago we reported that Warframe had the No. 4 spot on Steam and has now dropped back to 6th. It's also unlikely to increase in rankings as Counter-Strike Global Offensive has a stranglehold on No. 3 with about 200,000 more concurrent users.
Maybe we should start playing it, eh?
