UPDATE
Focus Interactive and Deck13 have dropped the first trailer for The Surge: A Walk In The Park, their Twisted Disneyland DLC for the Dark Souls-inspired sci-fi title The Surge. Have a look below.
As we detailed below, A Walk In The Park is the first proper DLC expansion for The Surge, which <a href="we had some enjoyment of but ultimately got bored with due to the dull, samey, cramped environments and levels. This expansion seems to change that and add some much-needed colour and fun as players face off against evil park mascots dressed as chocolate bars and donuts.
The Surge: A Walk in the Park will be available December 5 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and a Complete Edition of The Surge containing all the DLC will be available on the same day - leading us to wonder if A Walk in the Park is both the first and last DLC expansion the game will get.
Original Story Follows
The first major expansion for the sci-fi Dark Souls-like The Surge, from Focus Interactive and Deck13, is due out in December. The game's first DLC expansion is titled A Walk In The Park and will send players to a colourful abandoned amusement park filled with deadly park mascots. Although will it also be the game's last DLC expansion too?
The Surge: A Walk In The Park expansion is set in an abandoned amusement park called CREO World filled with attractions, rollercoasters, and cute mascots. Unfortunately the mascots are all robotic and have gone insane. This DLC is intended to address one of the complaints players had about The Surge, which was the drab, unimpressive environments. A Walk In The Park will be colourful, outdoors, and exciting, with many different ways to explore it - although much like the DLC expansions for the Dark Souls games it will also be a far tougher challenge. There's new enemies, a new boss, and new loot too.
From the press release:
"CREO World presents a wealth of fresh challenges for players. Originally built to celebrate CREO and its mission, the park is a radically different setting from the rest of the complex, full of branching paths and secrets to discover. Survive the raging mascots and explore the park's attractions, before taking on a fearsome boss in the devastated park. Through technical and spectacular fights, you will face this new threat, cutting and equipping 16 all-new weapons, sets of armor, and implants to upgrade and further customize the way you want to play."
Interestingly enough this might be the first and last DLC expansion for The Surge, as Focus are releasing The Surge: Complete Edition at the same time. This contains the updated version of the main game and all DLC including A Walk In The Park. If Focus and Deck13 were planning on releasing more expansions it would be a bit premature to have a Complete Edition, so we can't see any more happening.
We enjoyed parts of The Surge, but the tedious and dull level design made us get bored of it quickly. A Walk In The Park sounds a lot like Deck13's attempts to fix that issue, and it may even make us venture into the game again. It will be out in December, alongside the Complete Edition. Did you guys try The Surge? Did you like it? Will you consider returning for A Walk In The Park? Let us know below!
