When you've got a genre as oversaturated as MOBAs have become, standing out from the crowd with your game is quite the challenge. However, as a rule, it seems what few MOBAs gain some traction automatically gain a lot of it, which too carries its own difficulties - namely, an eager player base with a constant need to play which is ready to descend into panic upon the first sign of server downtime.
Battlerite, a free-to-play MOBA made by Stunlock Studios that accrued a huge player base, particularly since it left Early Access, is also susceptible to this effect. Even when server maintenance is scheduled and announced, any downtime causes distress among the fans. While, on the one hand, this may be explained with a string of high-profile game shut-downs in recent times spawning a constant fear that all but the #1 titles are in risk of going the way of the dodo, Battlerite isn't the kind of game that will just up and away suddenly.
Battlerite Servers are Closed
So, what does it mean if Battlerite's servers are closed? Most often it is due to scheduled server maintenance, a necessity of running a multiplayer game. In these cases, the maintenance is announced both on the Steam discussion boards as well as the game's official Twitter account, including when precisely it will begin and how long it will take. Rarely the maintenance runs overtime, but it hasn't ever been drastic so far.
Though rarer, sometimes unforeseen issues may cause server downtime. These may be "scarier" as they are not announced in advance, however the issues aren't too severe, and the folks over at Stunlock know what they're doing. Unexpected downtimes take less time to sort out than a scheduled maintenance to be completed, so you should be able to get back into the battle in no time.
At one point in November, 2017, a power outage at Stunlock's offices caused a larger disruption, however that was a really rare case, and while not impossible, there is little reason to believe it will repeat itself. Nonetheless, that time Stunlock gave players a bunch of in-game goodies as consolation, so hey, maybe if the servers are down for a few hours you'll get a bit of a boost, eh?
