Publisher CD Projekt today revealed a set of details about the Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order numbers, its players’ choice of platform and preferred distribution method, following the RPG’s recent launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 reached a total of 8 million pre-orders. 59% of them came from PC users, with the remaining 41% being split across consoles.
This means that 4.7 million people pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, potentially making it the fastest selling game on the platform.
Cyberpunk 2077 4.7 Million PC Pre-orders
Earlier this week, publisher Activision announced that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands – the latest expansion for Blizzard’s popular MMORPG – had sold 3.7 million copies “as of the first full day.”, laying claim to that title.
Since CD Projekt’s report only includes pre-orders, it’s likely that additional day-one sales came in later, potentially raising the number even higher. Either way, Shadowlands’ reign looks to have been quite a short one.
The anticipation surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 was reflected in more than just sales numbers. Hours before launch, more than 800,000 people were tuning in to Twitch streams showcasing the full version of the RPG.
Shortly after launch, 1 million concurrent players were exploring Night City on Steam. While bugs and other issues were brought up in reviews, the 8 years it spent in development and multiple delays don’t seem to have pushed people away from the RPG.
CD Projekt also revealed that those who preordered the game leaned heavily towards digital distribution, only 26% choosing physical copies.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Google Stadia.
