Daedalic Entertainment, publisher of Barotrauma and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, are turning their attentions to The Lord of the Rings with their new trailer for Gollum, due out sometime in 2021.
When we think of Lord of the Rings, we might see Gandalf facing off a Balrog or the Nazgûl swooping down on Fellbeasts, but at the end of the day what springs to mind for most people is Andy Serkis muttering about his precious. Despite the fact that the new Gollum doesn’t look like Serkis, the trailer still manages a good job of capturing the character’s essence.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Official Teaser Trailer
Gollum is being sold as a straightforward stealth game set in a time before the Fellowship of the Ring, concluding just before that story would commence. Without seeing much more we can’t talk about how the plot will play out, but we’re definitely hoping to see the internal conflict between Sméagol and Gollum.
The challenge will come from making the character and gameplay compelling enough without Tolkien’s work to fall back on, but as we only have the brief cinematic trailer we can’t comment yet.
