Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is getting co-op later this year, giving players a chance to team up against the AI outside of multiplayer matches for the first time. The announcement was made as part of today’s Fan Preview event, where a second expansion was also revealed.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition co-op will extend to “a specific set of campaign missions and historical battles,” although publisher Xbox Game Studios didn’t delve into specifics at this time.

More details will, however, be shared over the coming months, so it shouldn’t be much of a wait until we learn more about AoE II: DE’s upcoming co-op modes.
Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is also set to receive more civilizations this year. The United States will join the game’s playable roster next week, as part of its first major update.
The Fan Preview event also revealed more about the highly anticipated Age of Empires 4, including who its first campaign focuses on, four of its eight playable factions, and a lengthier look at gameplay.
