Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Triumph Studios today unveiled their post-launch plans for Age of Wonders 4, sharing the first details about the expansion pass content we can expect over the coming year.
As part of its expansion pass, the 4x strategy game is slated to receive one outfit pack, two smaller content packs, alongside two major DLCs that give players more options to customize their race both visually and gameplay-wise.
Age of Wonders 4 Expansion Pass
All of them are part of Age of Wonders 4’s Premium Edition, but they may become available as separate purchases at some point further down the line.
Starting things off is the Archmage Attire outfit pack, which unlocks a new set of clothing that race leaders can wear at launch. You can opt to equip it as a whole or mix and match individual pieces with other clothing options.
Slated to launch in Q3 2023, Age of Wonders 4: Dragon Dawn is a content pack that introduces the option to lead reptilian minions, use draconic magic, and turn your followers into dragon hybrids. It comes with a new dragon ruler type, a reptilian form, alongside new Tomes of Magic.
Age of Wonders 4’s expansion pass then delivers its first major DLC, Empires and Ashes, which focuses on the resurgence of mortal empires, allowing us to “fuse magic and steel to unleash devastating war machines to drive the Godir back into the Astral Sea.”
Releasing in Q4 2023, it brings with it a new culture, new Tomes of Magic, empire building options, as well as a new story realm.
In a Reddit AMA from April 2023, the developer revealed that “firearm-like weapons and bombs should make a return in the 2nd DLC.”
It’s unclear if this means Empires and Ashes or the second major DLC coming in 2024, but it’s nice to have confirmation either way.
The Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury Content Pack then lets us “create races using new beastly forms and a primeval culture, with new Tomes of Magic that tap nature’s hidden powers and the Fey realms.”
New forms of wildlife, creatures, and bountiful resources can be found across the map when it goes live in Q1 2024.
Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms wraps up the expansion pass in Q2 2024. The second major DLC “opens portals to realms filled with arcane marvels and unspeakable horrors,” giving us new monsters and racial forms to deal with alongside unexplored magical realms and locations to chart.
Age of Wonders 4 is also now available for pre-order. Its Standard Edition costs $49.99 / £41.99 / €49.99, while its Premium Edition will set you back $89.99 / £74.99 / €89.99.
All pre-orders gain access to Aric Rex, a Tigran High King leader, alongside his Lion Plate armor, Imperial Cape, and Athlan Crown items.
The 4X strategy game is currently set to launch on May 2, 2023, when it arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
