AI War 2 is a high-profile hybrid of real-time strategy and grand strategy genres where players must face an overwhelming threat of extinction at the hands of overlord AIs battling one another on a galactic scale.
A follow up to 2009’s AI War: Fleet Command, AI War 2 has been in Early Access for a while now, and the developers, Arcen Games, are finally getting ready for the final push. The official full release date is now slated for the 22nd of October, which is rather close.
Over the course of its Early Access campaign, AI War 2 has attained the impressive ‘Very Positive’ review rating on Steam, and the developers gathered valuable feedback from early adopters.
Touting impressive AI routines, an immense amount of content, and gameplay that’s both approachable and incredibly deep, AI War 2 aims to please a very particular niche of player - one that the developers seem to have nailed down quite well. Some of the game’s most important features include very polished gameplay mechanics, “crazy” moddability, and an up-to-date performance, as the game’s predecessor fared poorly in this regard.
Expect to see “hundreds of thousands of units running at 120fps,”, with there being an option to simply keep track of the AIs as they duke it out against one another. Developers have also mentioned improved automation features and tooltips, which should help in case we lose track of things.
You can already purchase AI War 2 on Steam for $19,99, and there’s been no mention of the price going up after the game is out.
